Selected with the fourth overall pick out of Memphis as a freshman, the 20- year-old Evans averaged 20.1 points, 5.8 assists and 5.3 rebounds in starting each of the 72 games in which he appeared. "Congratulations to Tyreke," said Kings coach Paul Westphal. "It's something we felt right from the start he was capable of. He deserved it. He has this ability to inspire confidence. He's the most consistent rookie I've ever seen." Evans became only the fourth first-year player to average over 20 points, five rebounds and five assists, joining a star-studded list comprised of Cavs superstar LeBron James and NBA Hall of Famers Michael Jordan and Oscar Robertson. Evans shot 45.8 percent from the floor and added 1.5 steals per contest in averaging 37.2 minutes for a rebuilding Kings squad that ended the year 25-57 -- second from the bottom in the Western Conference. The 6-foot-6 guard was the consensus National Freshman of the Year and a finalist for both the Wooden Award and the Oscar Robertson Trophy as a collegiate freshman. He led the Tigers in scoring with 17.1 points per game and set a school record for freshmen with 77 steals. Evans finished with 67 of a possible 123 first-place votes and ended with 491 overall tallies. Golden State's Stephen Curry finished second with 43 first-place votes and 391 total votes. The Davidson product averaged 17.5 points, 5.9 assists and 4.5 rebounds in 80 games. Milwaukee's Brandon Jennings finished third, picking up 12 first-place votes and 204 overall. He finished the 2009-10 campaign averaging 15.5 points, 5.7 assists and 3.4 rebounds in all 82 games.
